WHAT AREA OF BANGKOK BEST FITS YOUR PERSONALITY?
Bangkok is an enormous city; it has everything you need and is growing really fast. With so many choices, expats coming here to live might become stressed and overwhelmed when trying to find a place to call home. To make this whole process a little bit easier, I have taken a few areas of Bangkok and categorized them into 5 different personalities which they can be attributed to. Take a look and maybe you can begin to get an idea of where the most ideal area to live in will be for you.
The Partier

If you are a fan of Bangkok’s endless nightlife options and eager to get to one of these places without having to take a taxi to the nearest BTS or MRT lines, consider spending that taxi money on a nice apartment in a more convenient location around central Bangkok. The best nightlife hotspots are in these areas allowing you to walk out of nearly any transport stations and find yourself a chilled pub, go-go bar or club.
4 Ideal Locations: Asoke, Thong Lo, Siam, Victory Monument
The Family Man

If you are keen on settling down in a quiet neighborhood with space for children to run around in, consider the areas right outside the city center. Often between 5 and 10 minutes to the nearest public transport and about 15 minutes to downtown Bangkok, it is ideal for those working in the city, but who desire a quiet, friendly and safe neighborhood. These areas are home to several international schools and universities, as well as, restaurants, markets, shopping malls and child friendly activities.
4 Ideal Locations: Ladprao, Bang Na, Ari, Thonburi
The Long Term Traveler-Backpacker

Not all expats living in Bangkok are working; some have simply decided to call it home for a few months while they travel around the world. Often it is these personalities that enjoy meeting their fellow travelers. If this is you, one of the best and most obvious locations, would be around Khao San Road. While it is not as it was 30 years ago, it is still a haven for backpackers and a great place to meet people, socialize, and have fun. Located in the old city, several apartments and long term guesthouses are available throughout the area to suit the long term traveler’s budget.
4 Ideal Locations: Samsen Rd., Sipsamhang Rd., Rambutree Rd.,Tanao Rd.
The Sophisticated
Rachadamri and Ploenchit roads are the starting points for one of the most luxurious neighborhoods in Bangkok. Soi Langsuan and Tonson , both off of Ploenchit, are home to classy apartments and condominiums, as well as, 5 star restaurants and fancy cafés. A short walk to Chidlom BTS and only one stop away from Siam, it is the hub for designer labels and upscale boutiques. This area is the ‘It’ location for anyone seeking a luxurious posh lifestyle.
4 Ideal Locations: Ploenchit, Chidlom, Siam, Ratchadamri
The Shop-a-holic

If you have been to Bangkok for more than 24 hours, you will likely notice the seemingly endless shopping activities. The city is full of day markets, night markets, roadside shops, boutiques and of course shopping malls. That being said, if you love to shop, you will no doubt have no trouble finding an array of different hotspots throughout the city.
The Victory Monument area is known for its street fashion items and accessories. Take the Skytrain to Ramkamhang Station and begin a day of shopping along the 5km+ long market alongside the road. Keep in mind that while you do not have to consider the lack of shopping items, you should consider what it is that you like, i.e. designer, unique, mass produced, knock-off, etc.
